If gas contains ethanol, is it labeled that way on the pump? An 85% blend of ethanol is always labeled at the pump because it is an alternative fuel for use only in flexible fuel vehicles. Because up to a 10% blend of ethanol can be used in any vehicle, in some areas it is labeled and in some it is not.

Ethanol isn'ta good answer for replacing oil
At first glance, you would think ethanol is not only the cure for global warming, but also a way to reduce our dependence on costly oil imported from trouble spots in the Middle East and elsewhere. It's not. But that hasn't stopped governments, auto makers and various industry lobby groups from pushing ahead enthusiastically on the ethanol front. Let's start with governments, which have set up new rules for ethanol that are aimed at reducing vehicle emissions. Ethanol, an alcohol fuel which in Canada is refined primarily from corn, must make up 5 per cent of all gasoline sold in Ontario by 2007. In Saskatchewan, the figure is higher at 7.5 per cent. Nationally, the provinces and the federal government have agreed to boost the amount of ethanol mixed into all Canadian gasoline to 5 per cent by 2010, up from the current 1-per-cent requirement.
Vail urges retailers to make ethanol fuel more available
The deputy Prime Minister and Nationals Leader, Mark Vaile, has called on Coles and Woolworths to make ethanol-blended fuel available at all their service stations. The two giant retailers control more than 1,000 retail outlets but only one of their branded service stations, in Cairns, sells the ethanol blend known as E-10. Coles and Woolworths have joint ventures with Shell and Caltex. Mr Vaile says the two retail chains should give more choice to motorists. "From today onwards it would be great if the major retailers, that is Coles and Woolworths, were able to do a bit more in making biofuels available through those outlets that they have at their retail sites across Australia," Mr Vaile said. "It is possible, the Government has announced a policy to help with the conversion of those bowsers.
Ethanol Fuel, Lessening the Reliance on Gasoline
When we talk about ethanol fuel, we are talking about alternative fuel. The alternative fuel market is taking on a shape of its own. Ethanol as an alternative fuel is part of the field of biomass or renewable energy. We are moving in this direction out of necessity due to the unreliability of crude oil. Ethanol is a renewable energy resource whereas petroleum is finite. Although petroleum is finite, this doesn't mean we will all of a sudden run out. As the petroleum supplies get more and more limited, the costs associated with production will continue to rise. It is the time of alternative fuel. We are going to take a quick look at one particular country and that country is Brazil. Brazil is a country that has taken serious steps in the use and development of alternative fuel and alternative energy.
