A sweet solution to many of problems associated with cars and fuel

Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to get a trip to Mauritius where, among other things, I discovered that they were saving on energy costs by generating power from sugar cane waste.

Only a proportion of their needs but a significant portion.

I have never been to Brazil, but I think I might have to.

Brazil is now the world leader in biofuels.

I am indebted to a piece by strategy consultants Roland Berger for pointing out that no other country can make ethanol as cheaply as Brazil.

Fuel Your Car With Cow Hockey?

MEAD, Neb. -- The federal government on Thursday will announce new standards designed to double the production of ethanol and biodiesel.

A Nebraska man is convinced his plan can help that effort by using cow manure to make ethanol production more efficient. Mark "Bump" Kraeger works out of an ethanol plant in Mead, where Kraeger's process reduces the cost of ethanol production.

"It's a 30,000-head feedyard custom feed lot. A lot of these cattle are owned by customers," Kraeger said. .
